Overhead expenses refer to the ongoing expenses of operating a business that cannot be conveniently traced to or identified with any particular cost unit. In other words, overhead cannot be immediately associated with generating profits. Examples of overhead expenses include: advertising, insurance, taxes, legal fees, and utilitities.
