Launch of the 5G-DiGITs Alliance project, an initiative to empower the workforce for the digital and green era
Brussels, 22/11/2024. The 5G-DiGITs Alliance, a forward-thinking initiative to bridge the skills gap and prepare Europe’s workforce for the 5G era, officially launched on November 1st, 2024. Coordinated by Envolve from Greece, this collaborative project unites 12 partners from eight countries (Spain, Greece, Belgium, Ireland, Sweden, Malta, Lithuania, and Germany) to address workforce challenges and foster innovation.
Advanced 5G technologies are at the forefront of the ongoing digital transformation, enabling applications such as the Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and advanced manufacturing. With faster connectivity, reduced latency, and improved reliability, 5G is unlocking unprecedented possibilities. However, the rapid development of these technologies has exposed critical gaps in workforce skills, particularly in the areas of digital, green, and entrepreneurial competencies. The 5G-DiGITs Alliance aims to fill these gaps by fostering collaboration among higher education, vocational education and training (VET) institutions, and industry leaders to build a skilled, future-ready workforce.
To tackle the challenges above mentioned, 5D-DiGiTs Alliance has four main goals to be fulfilled during the project. First of all, the project will equip professionals with advanced digital, green, and entrepreneurial skills to meet the demands of 5G-driven industries. Second, collaboration between academia, research, and industry will be sought, to accelerate knowledge transfer and practical applications. The third of our mission will be also ensuring broad accessibility to 5G benefits, supporting sustainable development. Last but not least, cultivation of entrepreneurial mindsets will be another of the priorities, to inspire innovative solutions for real-world challenges.
As part of the leader entity, Christina Skoubridou, Director of EU Innovation Department at Envolve, claims she is honoured to coordinate this vital initiative: “By leveraging the collective expertise of our partners across Europe, the 5G-DiGITs Alliance will empower individuals and industries to thrive in an increasingly connected, sustainable, and innovative world.”
Online Kick-off meeting
On November 21st, 2024, the partners convened for the online kick-off meeting, marking the beginning of this ambitious collaboration designed to support Europe’s digital and green transitions. Apart from the leader entity Envolve (Greece), 5D-DiGiTs Alliance consortium will gather INFOLYSIS, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, CNC Solutions (Greece), Accelr8 (Malta), F6S IE (Ireland), Finnova (Belgium), Inercia Digital and Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain), Karlstads Universitet (Sweden), TECHNISCHE UNIVERSITAET CHEMNITZ (Germany) and Techin (Lithuania).
As the leading organization for this project, Envolve will foster seamless collaboration among partners through a robust project management plan, ensuring both smooth execution and high-quality outcomes. Envolve plays a pivotal role in the project’s activities, particularly in the areas of Accelerator and Entrepreneurship Programs.
Envolve will lead the design and implementation of the transnational accelerator program, empowering student-led startups in advanced 5G and green technology sectors to thrive. Additionally, Envolve will contribute to the development and delivery of entrepreneurship-focused courses on sustainability, sharing expertise in sustainable business planning, green marketing strategies, and financing and investment for 5G-related ventures.
Being part of this initiative reinforces Envolve’s leadership in entrepreneurship while expanding its network of partners and stakeholders across academia, industry, and research. Envolve is proud to contribute to this innovative effort, driving meaningful progress in sustainability and advanced technologies.
This collaborative project will position Europe as a leader in advanced 5G technology development and deployment, ensuring a competitive and adaptable workforce to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving landscape. The project will run for 36 months with a total budget of 1.396.335€ funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ Programme.
