A Hackathon to Revolutionize Healthcare with Space Technologies in Ioannina, Greece

Ioannina, Greece – 14 March 2025 – How can space technology revolutionize healthcare? Envolve Entrepreneurship (https://envolveglobal.org/) has selected Ioannina, Greece as the location to host the 9th CASSINI Hackathon in Greece, as a pioneer region in the healthcare industry. Taking place at the “Dimitris Chatzis” Cultural Center in May 16-18, 2025, the three-day CASSINI Hackathon, organized by Envolve in partnership with ecosystem stakeholders, aims to bring together innovators, developers, the research community, spacetech enthusiasts, and entrepreneurs to tackle real-world healthcare challenges, using European space technologies, such as satellite data, artificial intelligence, and geospatial technology.
The CASSINI Hackathon is a parallel event of the Zagori Impact Investing Forum (https://zagoriforum.com), under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Governance, the Region of Epirus and the Municipality of Ioannina, offering the opportunity to the participating teams to connect with industry leaders and experts. As part of the CASSINI Hackathons & Mentoring initiative by the European Commission, this innovation hackathon will take place simultaneously in 10 different cities in the EU, and challenges participants to use Copernicus, Galileo, and EGNOS satellite data to develop groundbreaking solutions in the health sector. No prior experience in space technology is required for participation, whilst the program is in search of passionate individuals for problem-solving with a drive to make an impact.
With an aim to create impact in Healthtech, AI, and sustainability, under this year’s theme, “Space for Healthcare,” teams will develop solutions to address pressing healthcare challenges, through one of the following tracks:
- Monitoring Disease Outbreaks & Health Risks: Using satellite data to track environmental factors affecting public health.
- Smart Emergency Healthcare Delivery: Enhancing medical logistics, telemedicine, and emergency response with space-based technologies.
- Mental Health & Well-Being: Developing solutions to assess and improve mental well-being, through environmental monitoring.
Winners of the European finals will receive:
- Up to €9,000 in prizes
- Access to exclusive EU space data & cutting-edge tools

- 100+ hours of post-hackathon mentoring
