26 February 22024 – RInnoValleys (https://rinnovalleys.eu) a new collaborative initiative by EU stakeholders from Greece, Catalonia-Spain, Malta, Hungary, Belgium and Ireland envisions to transform regions into innovation valleys, contributing to the overall growth and competitiveness of the EU. Led by Envolve Entrepreneurship (Greece), ACCIÓ – Agència per la Competitivitat de l’Empresa (Catalonia-Spain), Hungarian Innovation Agency (Hungary), Acceler8 Limited (Malta), National Association of Community Enterprise Centres (Ireland), and Startup Europe Regions Network (Belgium), this one-year initiative is set to address disparities and challenges faced by the 5 EU regions in supporting deep tech startups and accessing the European Innovation Council (EIC). RInnoValleys commenced its first peer learning event in Barcelona hosting 26 representatives of the EU innovation ecosystem, including private and public organizations.
ACCIÓ, the Public Agency for the Competitiveness of Catalan Enterprise, hosted the peer learning event, introducing to the Catalan innovation and startup ecosystem, including Tech Barcelona, Barcelona Super Computing Center, Aristos Funding, Go Bridge the Gap, Collider, as well as startups such as Nimble Diagnostics and Mimark, presenting successful cases in accessing the European Innovation Council. Each participating country-member was accompanied by two representatives of their country’s innovation ecosystem, including technological and research parks, governmental bodies supporting innovation and R&D, tech clusters and hubs, academia, startup support organizations, and more. The learnings and best practices of these peer learning events will be shared on RInnoValleys website on its Resources Center, providing success stories and recommendations.
RInnoValleys focuses on understanding the challenges faced by EU regions in accessing the European Innovation Council, identifying best practices from strong innovator regions, facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange. The common scope is the development of a transnational joint action plan to enhance the capabilities of these regions to connect with the EIC ecosystem and foster inclusive, gender-diverse, and connected innovation ecosystems in line with the New European Innovation Agenda
The project was launched with the funding and support of Horizon Europe Framework Programme. RInnoValleys project is poised to significantly impact EU innovation ecosystems by fostering collaboration, ensuring the involvement of key innovation players from government, academia, industry, and civil society (Quadruple Helix Model), promoting inclusivity across all EU territories, including rural areas aligning regional innovation policies with the New European Innovation Agenda.
